The past five years have witnessed the rise and rise of the app economy. From mobile apps downloaded on smartphones and tablets, to web apps used directly on browsers, the global app economy is now worth over $52bn.
A couple of weeks ago the international analyst firm IDC published the latest in its global IT spending reports: “State of the Market: IT Spending Review & Forecast Q2 2013,” The report looks at IT spending by region and by category such as PCs, mobile devices, printers and software.
The role of the CIO, rather than that of IT Manager or IT Director, is a relatively new one. In fact the IT function itself originally was part of operations, and before that office management. Despite its ‘newness’ the CIO job function is seen in some quarters as being under threat.
